So much…or so little, to do
There are so many things to do in Tenerife, all year round, the list of excursions and activities is endless and all the ones we have been on over the years have been fantastic. Check out this link and if you are interested in any of the excursions, there are kiosks and shops right on our doorstep where you can buy tickets and get further information. However, if that’s not your thing, the villa is perfect for a family, a group, a romantic couple or just a holiday to chill.
Tenerife experiences a spring like temperature over the year and is so called ‘The Island of eternal spring’. The average annual temperature is between 22-24ºC so ideal for Summer and Winter breaks, we go every year in December and the temperature is perfect. There are some great beaches too, our favourites are Las Vistas, a 15 minute walk left along the sea towards Los Christianos, the beds are reasonably priced, the sea and sand are wonderful and there is a great beach bar/restaurant overlooking the sea, a great spot.
The beach at Del Duque is another favourite, about 15 minutes in a cab, a bit more expensive and also has a great beach bar. There is a great beach club at Fannabe called Le Club, there is a set price for the day, it includes your bed, a sumptuous double and you spend the money on food and drink, all brought to you. The food is great, the music is good and it’s a great place to chill. Click the Sun and beach breaks link for more information.
You are spoilt for choice with 5 fantastic courses within 20 minutes. Las Americas is barely a 5 minute taxi ride, a lovely course and ideal for an afternoon round if you are arriving in the morning! and Adeje is a fantastic course, one of my all time favourites, very good and friendly staff their too. Go to the Golf Breaks link for more information.
There is fantastic surfing in Tenerife and we are right on top of it. Check out this link for the top ten surfing destinations, two of them are right on our doorstep, Billboards is 2 minutes away.
Tenerife is great for cycling, whether it’s heavy duty training for competitive events or just a relaxing holiday, it is perfect for bikes and the villa couldn’t be in a better location. Check out this link for bike hire and more information.
“We had the pleasure of staying in this villa for a week of cycling. The location is perfect, Routes up to El Teide and some of the Tenerife costal routes are easily accessible and it’s in easy strolling distance of bars and some lovely restaurants (important after a day riding up El Teide!). The villa itself is bright and airy with plenty of room for a group of friends or a family. The private courtyard provides a lovely eating area (and storage for bicycles!). The pool in the complex is only a short walk away and has a small bar for poolside refreshments. The villa is right next to the beach and we’d retire to the balcony every evening for a few drinks and watch the waves and surfers rolling in off the ocean. We will definitely be going back, and we can’t recommend this villa highly enough.”
Fantastic dives are available from the complete beginner to the experienced. A number of qualified dive centres are within and around Las Americas making the villa an ideal base for those wanting to learn how to dive, to work on their PADI qualifications or the more adventurous wanting to see what the Tenerife diving experience can offer them.
Around the villa and beyond
Restaurants (close and within a taxi ride), our pound for pound favourite is Sugar and Spices, right opposite the front of the complex, we have been going there since it opened and never had a bad meal, a superb Italian restaurant, great service too. Meson Castellano is a great tapas restaurant, top quality local dishes, great service, 100% Canarian. There are some great fresh fish restaurants in La Caleta, the Masia del Mar overlooks the harbour, great fresh fish. Also Restaurant 88 is very good there too, great Dim Sum, booking advised here though, very popular. Los Abrigos is also great for fresh fish, about 20 minutes in a cab. The Oasis is a great chicken restaurant in Adeje, mostly locals but with a few holiday makers ‘in the know’, Oasis restaurant
Los Cristianos is a lovely 25 minute walk along the front from the villa, or a 5 minute taxi ride, always worth a visit, loads of good restaurants and shops, we like the Water Melon and all the bars along the same strip.
If your passion is fine dining or you are looking for somewhere for a special occasion, there are now four restaurants on the island that boast five Michelin stars between them, the only island in the Canaries to have any.
The 2016 edition of the guide renews the previous four, two stars for M.B. and one for Kabuki in the Abama Hotel, and one for Kazán in Santa Cruz and now adds another for El Rincón de Juan Carlos in Los Gigantes. For reviews and views click here.
Have a look at these ten ‘must try’ restaurants too.
Nightlife is whatever you want (or don’t want) it to be in Tenerife, night clubs, live stage shows, big name stars often perform here, it pretty much has everything, great new beach club on the front at Las Americas, Papagayo.
Theme parks are fantastic in Tenerife and they come in all shapes and sizes, Sian Park probably the best, they claim to have the longest water ride in Europe, we know lots of families of all ages that have been there and they all said it was superb, ideal for kids and parent! of all ages.
Excursions too many to name, some of our favourites over the years have been the dolphin and whale watching, wonderful day out, try the Freebird from Porto Colon, the Medieval Castle fantastic for young kids, a great night out. A trip up to the top of Teide is a grew adventure too, there are a few good hotels up there too if you fancy staying over for the night.
Island visit to La Gomera is worth the trip, they have the only rain forest in the Northern Hemisphere, so I am told, we did the trip years back and it was well worth it, there are regular ferries out of Los Christianos every day. There is also a great new golf course over there for those of you who play, La Tecina.
Money changing is simple in Tenerife, there are numerous money changing shops close to the villa, most of the excursion shops change currency, we use a shop at the front of the complex, there is also a bank on the complex too.
Supermarkets are in abundance and there is a great new supermarket right on the complex, with a bakery and deli, reasonably priced and lots of fresh local produce.
Shops are everywhere, it is a shoppers paradise and lots of them are right on our doorstep, left out of the front of the complex takes you to a whole street of designer boutiques, there are some along the front too but the best in the area can be found in The Golden Mile, about a 10 minute walk towards Los Christianos. Loads of mens and womens designer boutiques in The Safari Centre. Great shopping too in Adeje if you are out that way.
Getting around in Tenerife couldn’t be easier, if you don’t want to take taxis, buses or hire a car, you don’t need to, the villa is so well located, everything is on the doorstep, but there are three taxi ranks at the front of the complex, the taxis are reliable and reasonably priced. There are loads of car hire companies too, we use Dr Stange, the estate agent opposite the complex, very reliable and competitively priced. There are also loads of car hire firms at the airport. There are buses that run just about everywhere over the Island too.
